Fostering Psychological Safety in the Workplace: An Intro for Scholarly Publishers

57:19

2024 | September, Sarah Bay, PhD, Dennis P. Stolle, JD, PhD, Alisa C.D. Clark

We do our best work when we can bring our full selves to the job. When we feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes without fear of humiliation or punishment, we’re more likely to find satisfaction at work and—in turn—to perform better. These ideas are central to the concept of psychological safety, and fostering that safety is key in building a productive, fulfilling work environment. Join us to gain a detailed understanding of psychological safety at work: what it looks like, why it matters, and how to facilitate it. We’ll discuss how individuals within various levels in an organization’s structure can contribute, how to address psychologically unsafe environments, and how a DEI-informed approach can support an organization’s goals around inclusivity.

Measuring Success and Ensuring Progress: Accountability and Metrics in DEIA Programs

01:01:02

May 2025, Camille Lemieux, Alisa C.D. Clark, Stephanie Pollock

To ensure diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) programs are successful, organizations must have strategies and procedures to measure progress toward goals. In line with the conference theme of intersecting value with values, this session aims to spotlight real-world examples of measuring progress toward DEIA goals, including notable successes and opportunities for improvement. Topics include an approach to assessing and improving employee experiences around the globe, demographic data collection and use, and efforts to analyze the success and impact of a pathway-building editorial fellowship program and uptake of DEIA journal policies. Attendees will gain insight into building measurable DEIA programs in their teams or organizations to ensure accountability and promote meaningful progress against stated DEIA values. Sponsored by the SSP DEIA Committee.
